On November 17, 2025, a 26-year-old woman, Bethany MaGee, was set on fire in an immolation attack on a Blue Line train in Chicago, Illinois, United States. MaGee survived with critical injuries. The assailant, Lawrence Reed, had 72 prior arrests.\n\nReed attacked MaGee while on pre-trial release with electronic monitoring to face charges of aggravated battery against a hospital worker, and Reed had repeatedly violated the terms of his release in the days leading up to the attack.\n\nCircuit Court of Cook County Judge Teresa Molina-Gonzalez ordering Reed\'s release with monitoring, before being charged with federal terrorism charges.
